Our HistorY
In 2001, Spay4LA and the Coalition for Pets & Public Safety implemented the first mobile spay and neuter clinic in Los Angeles.
Together, both organizations have spayed and neutered over 200,000 dogs and cats throughout low income communities of Los Angeles including South LA, Compton, Watts, and East LA.
Erika Brunson, and Pam Wilkinson worked as a determined team from 1999-2022. When Erika passed away in 2022, she gave the baton to Pam who continues the mission with the same passion as they both had in 1999, when over 100,000 dogs and cats were euthanized at both county and city shelters.
The duo, before COVID, assisted in reducing shelter intake and euthanasia which decreased by approximately 80%. However, after COVID intake and euthanasia once again increased. This is likely due to other spay and neuter clinics ceasing operations during COVID, and over charging after COVID, yet Spay4LA continued operations creating new COVID protocol, and has remained low cost.
Our Mission
Spay4LA’s mission is to curb the pet over population in low income areas, where is it financially challenging for pet owners to pay for spay and neutering. We strive to achieve this goal by assisting low and no income pet guardians, who could not otherwise afford to pay for their pets’ spay or neutering. We also have a focus on Community cats residing in low income areas.
HOW WE ACHIEVE OUR MISSION
Using Los Angeles County and City Vouchers to assist to low income pet gaurdians.
Increase pet adoption and fostering
Increase pet owner education
-Pet ID’s/pet collars
-Microchipping and maintenance
-Keeping cats indoors until they are spayed or neutered
OUR RESULTS
Spay4LA is currently the most productive mobile spay and neuter clinic in Los Angeles.
Spay4LA continues to work with the community so Los Angeles will once again reduce shelter intake and euthanasia, which should not be an acceptable way of controlling the pet overpopulation.
